Christ Planet.Com

Homesteading is not a single idea, but many ideas and attitudes.
Homesteading is a simpler way of life led by a special kind of individual who cares about his or her family and the earth on which they live. Homesteads are as different as the individuals who create and operate them. If you practice the attitudes and ideas in a way that best suits yoursituation, then you're doing it. You're a homesteader!

Christ Planet.Com is a forum to discuss the issues and needs of Christian homesteaders, and anyone who wishes to practice "voluntary simplicity".

Welcome to Christ Planet.Com, the Home of Christian Self Reliance

Self-reliance: As Christians, we can NEVER be totally self reliant, as we will always depend on our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus for everything!

In the worldly sense of the term, we mean eliminating as much of the dependence on government, society, malls, etc. that we have grown used to.

Self-reliant folks grow their own vegetables, raise their own meat, teach their own children, make their own clothes, solve problems themselves, and basically try to live life fully through the work of their own hands.

Do the Squirrels Know Something We Don’t?
It is hot. It is humid. With this ongoing heat wave around the country, I don’t think anyone is seriously thinking about winter, except maybe the squirrels in my neighborhood.

Being Tough without Air Conditioning
The real heat and humidity caught some of us by surprise. In other words, I did not get my air conditioner in my bedroom prior to “suffering” through at least one hot, stifling night. My mother was born in 1922, so I asked her what was it like before AC and how did they handle [...]

Snow in Canada??
While people across North America were sweating it out this week in an ongoing heat wave, Marmot Basin, a ski resort in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, got about 7 inches of snow on Tuesday.

Anticipation . . .
It’s a most wonderful time here at the Farmers’ Almanac. No not summer, which is a great season, but a time when we await the first printed copies of the newest (2011) Farmers’ Almanac from our printer. Sure we’ve seen it on our computer screens and on print-outs, but there’s nothing like holding a “hot off [...]

Why do they cool the aisles?!
Have you been food shopping lately? If so have you shivered through the dairy and produce aisles? Have you ever wondered why the refrigeration aisles in food stores don’t have any doors on them to keep the cool air in? Instead all of that cool air gets shared throughout the the store. Can this be energy-efficient? [...]

Dog Days are Here.
The dog days of summer are the period between July 3 and August 11. It is during this time that the sun occupies the same region of the sky as Sirius, the Dog Star. It was once believed that due to the star’s position at this time of year that it somehow conspired with the [...]

Take a Time Out
July is here. Summer is in full swing. While most people find time to take a vacation during the summer, this season can be just as busy as the others. Barbecues, parties, fireworks, and the regular chores and work schedule of the every day can fill up your calendars quickly. I’d like to remind everyone [...]

Where did ice cream come from?
At this time of year, ice cream seems to be a much more sought out dessert/snack than ever. Perhaps it’s the idea of indulging in something cool on a hot day, or maybe it’s due the opening of the many seasonal ice cream shops around town. Whatever it is there’s nothing like an ice cream [...]

Making Whoopie!
In Maine, we know how to celebrate. We honor the lobster, the wild blueberry, the Kennebunk dump, and on June 26, Maine is declaring it “Whoopie Pie Day”. Rumor has it that the origins of the whoopie pie are in Lewiston, while others say it is somewhere in Massachusetts or Pennsylvania. Nonetheless, the absolute best [...]
