I was curious as to what resources folks have used to find building plans for their homesteading buildings. I once used a basic set of plans for a lean-to horse shed I saw in Mother Earth News, but was 30 some years ago...

no place. I drew them up myself, basing the floorplan on the old farmhouse I grew up in. Our house is very simple. I also drew the plan for the shop, storage and bunkrooms above it. An Amish guy and his boys helped us build that, and he said it was a good plan. Then we built a cabin for our son and that is downright cute. I like drawing plans. I'd post a picture if Kodak Easy Share would let me.

Bruse
My resource is between my ears. I don't know why but I will sketch a crude plan on a napkin then just start building. It comes to me as I start putting up the walls. Once the basics are done then I sit down and visualize what I want. Thats one reason it's hard to work with me on a building because I hardly know where the next 2X4 is going to be. I'm kind of a quirky type of guy.

I just make it up as I go along. I have an overall plan in my head from things I've seen others do. Then I modify it as I go. The final product is always better than it started out.
